Tell 'em that it's my birthday

...when I party like that!

*cue party music*

Lordy, lordy, y'all. Today is a B-I-G day. I know the whole concept of a "blogiversary" is kinda cheesy, but today, I don't even care because I'm so excited/proud/happy about it.

On October 6th, 2013, I sat in the senior lounge of Girls Preparatory School and thought to myself, "I should start a blog." I quickly Googled, "how to start a blog," and Blogger popped up as the first option. I already had an account with blogger (long story, for another time) so it was a no brainer. But, Memphis Made wasn't Memphis Made yet.

I started out with simply because I had no earthly idea what this blog was going to be about. I had no clue what I was going to do with it or even what I would write about, but I just went with it.

I quickly found the writing therapeutic and although I had begun to start reading bunches of blogs, my daily bookmarks list grew exponentially as I discovered an entire industry hidden inside of the internet. I was fascinated by writing styles and website layouts and collaborations, and although it took me forever to start doing my own fashion posts, I realized that I wanted to be more than just a personal lifestyle blog. I wanted to write something that other people could read and enjoy, not just a personal page filled with crap about my life. (I am a big proponent of writing about your own life though. I have a separate blogger account where I do this and none of the posts ever get published)

Although it took until last September *cringe* to get my first outfit post up, once I started creating my own fashion posts, I realized that I loved this aspect of blogging. I liked the balance between lifestyle, fashion, and personal posts, and I soon realized that I had found my niche.

Now, that's not to say that I don't have the occasional "what the hell am I doing" moments, because let me tell ya, we all have them. And, it's always awkward to explain to people walking by on campus that my "photoshoots" are not as weird as they probably look. But honestly, I wouldn't trade this little corner of the internet for anything. Blogging has helped me gain a sense of confidence that I don't think I otherwise would have found, and it has allowed me to have a productive creative outlet. This blog has seen me through the entire college admissions process, my first heartbreak, joining Kappa Delta, the painful struggles of adjusting to college, and finally, to where I am today as a college sophomore who's about to declare her major early, has a great internship, and is happy as a clam.

Two years ago, I would peruse other blogs in class, but I rarely worked on my own in public because I was afraid people would see it. I didn't want other people to find my hobby because it was so personal and precious to me. But today, I will announce/announced (depending on what time you're reading this) MM on my personal Instagram. I realize that for most bloggers, 2 years is an obnoxiously long time to wait to showcase your blog to your family and friends. And, most of my friends already know about it because they've helped out with it (Emily & Olivia, y'all get major gold stars) or because they found it on social media. However, I never formally said "Hey! This is my blog, go check it out!" until today. Two years ago, I never would have done that, because I was so afraid of people judging my work and criticizing it or thinking it was weird. But here's one other major thing I've learned from blogging - you just can't care about what other people say or think. There are 7 billion people in this world, and as long as you like what you're doing, it doesn't matter.

So, I want to conclude this post by thanking the readers who have stuck with me from the very beginning, Whitney for this AMAZING new design, my fabulous photographers/best friends Emily and Olivia, my parents for not being weird about the fact that I have this site, and all of you, whether you're new or old, for reading MM and being supportive of me and my blog.

It's been one heck of a ride the past two years, and I can't wait to see what the next few bring.
