Vic's Declassified School Survival Guide {Backup Plans}

We're back this week with one of the more painstaking parts of the college process - picking a different option.

Maybe you weren't accepted, maybe you were deferred. Maybe you were accepted and the finances didn't work out or your parents decided that school was a bit too far away. There are tons of reasons why you may not ultimately get to call your dream school home, but there is a way to make the most of a seemingly dismal situation.

Some of my friends experienced some of the options above, and they were emotional, gritty, and raw experiences. However, we wouldn't be doing the college process a full service if we didn't talk about the ugly sides of it.

So you can't go to your number one. The biggest thing is to accept it. You sent in that application, you did your best in high school, and that is all that you can do. You cannot do anything else, you could not have. The situation went out of your hands and that is okay. The first thing you need to do is accept the fact that your plan might be changing. I'm one of those people who does not handle changes to schedules well, so I understand that this can be very stressful and intimidating. However, hold faith in that everything happens for a reason.

All you can do is make the best of what you have available to you, whether that's taking out a student loan so you can go to your dream school, going to one of your backups, or anything like that. All I can tell you is that it will be ok. Keep your head up!
