I know I'm a day late on this, but I wanted to take an extra 24 hours to really figure out what I wanted to say.

I've been really, really lucky because I've never had to face the kind of adversity that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought to remedy. However, I don't think that means that I don't have something to learn from him.

On the surface, he fought for racial equality. But the more I've looked into his teachings, the more I see that racial equality wasn't the only thing he was fighting for. I think that the heart of his ideology is simply love.

We all need a little more love in our lives (unless it's Valentine's Day. We're not talking about that wretched holiday on here, no sir), but I think we often fail to realize that we have to give love first. I believe Dr. King calls us to love those who will not love us, no matter why, and in that great act of rising above the animosity, we remedy the hatred we see in the world.

What do you think about MLK Day? I want to know!
