5 ways to make your dorm feel like home

And all of them take less than an hour! (SCORE)

One // Make a headboard
This was a HUGE game-changer for me. Having a headboard in my dorm room makes it feel less like a temporary home and more like a real one. Here's how I made mine!

Two // Grab a candle
I know most dorms don't allow candles, but hey, if you can sneak one in for a few minutes, it will smell so much better. A better (ok...much better) alternative is to buy some fresh flowers and keep them on your desk!

Three // Bring your favorite food
Perhaps your favorite dish can only be made in a full-size kitchen, but if you haven't gone back to school yet, make a plate (or several...) of it and bring it back to school with you. If possible, buy it at school/in town and enjoy it!

Four // Air your dirty laundry
No, not that kind of laundry. Actual laundry. Wash everything in that dorm room. Your comforter, towels, etc., will feel much better if they're all clean in time for a new semester.

Five // Stick something on the refrigerator
This may be corny, but hey, do what works. Maybe you'll throw up that final you got an A on last semester or maybe you'll just tack on the takeout menu from your favorite Chinese place in town. Regardless, at home, you probably have something hanging on your refrigerator. Maybe it's a weird thing to do, but it made me feel like I was home.

  2. This list is spot on! Although, I don't live in a dorm, I did this with my apartment last weekend and it definitely gave me an uplifting feeling. Such a great idea for every college student to do before the start of another semester
