Wind Down

One of the hardest things for me to adjust to when I came to college was figuring out my new routine. I'm one of those people who lives and dies by the structure in which they conduct their days, and being in a new environment threw me for a loop for the first few weeks. We're going on 2 months of being "on my own" now, and I think I've finally figured it out!

One // Keep water in the room at all times.
It is so irritating to me to not have clean and cold water. The water fountain in our hallway isn't very cold and lukewarm drinking water is one of my absolute pet peeves. I always keep a cup near my bed just in case!

Two // Shower near bedtime.
Pretty much my entire life, I've used my shower as my "reward" for finishing my homework. I got to be warm and clean and then crawl into a toasty bed. Although our community bathrooms are by no means luxurious, people kind of fight over the handicapped shower because it's the biggest and because the water faucet is actually above everybody's heads. There have been many times where I just have not felt like dealing with the other showers when the handicapped one is taken, but it makes me feel so much better when I do!

Three // Make a checklist.
Sometimes I can't fall asleep because my mind is spinning with all the things I need to do. I need to get up at this time for swim practice, I need to be here at this time for a KD meeting, I need to write this paper and study for that test, etc. It can get to be overwhelming when I'm trying to calm down. I have a handful of notepads by my bed that I use to just get these things down. This way, I know I'll remember them, and I can get them out of my head knowing I have a concrete list to glance at the next day.

What do you do to calm down?
