The key to managing your schedule

I want to cry a little looking at that. Just a little.

What you don't see is the daily pages that are flooded with sticky notes and arrows because I ran out of room...oopsies. I'm thinking that the jumbo Lilly planner is in my future for next year.

Today I wanted to share with y'all my tips for managing a schedule that looks like...that. In addition to everything written in the calendar, I have schoolwork, swimming, and the occasional social event to attend and prepare for. Did I mention sleep sometimes too?

Amidst many a late night session in the library (yep, they're happening already...) I realized that the reason I was able to get things done was because I was prioritizing them.

1. Family/Personal Obligations
If you or a family member is sick, you need to go deal with that first and foremost. Those people matter more than anything, and if it's a personal obligation, such as being ill, overwhelmed, or any other issue, you need to take care of yourself in order to get through school.

2. Schoolwork
If you're in college, high school, or whatever educational stage you're in, it comes second to your family and personal obligations. Within schoolwork, I prioritize in a few ways: 1. When is it due? 2. Am I struggling in the class? 3. How much does this count towards my final grade? From there, it's pretty easy to figure out what has to be done first.

3. Athletic Obligations
Although the swim season hasn't officially started yet, I know that I'm often going to have to miss social or sorority events for swim meets. That was a sacrifice I was willing to make when I committed, and it's almost time for me to start living out that sacrifice.

4. Sorority/Social Events
I had my first swap last night (wahoo!) but know that there will be some I have to miss down the road for various reasons. This is definitely a bummer, but I know that it'll all pay off in the end.

It can be tough to follow these sometimes. Ok, a lot of the time, because what I want to do and what I need to do don't always match up, but I've had success following them as best as I can.
