That guy...

You know that guy.

That person who shows up late, leaves early, and does absolutely nothing while he/she is there.

You don't want to be that guy.

My summer job is a lifeguard at a local pool. It isn't a difficult job by any means. I sit outside, I clean the pool and the bathrooms, I fold towels, and I cater to first aid needs of all of the pool's members. It isn't that bad of a job, really.

However, sometimes, because it isn't terribly difficult, people take advantage of the easygoing air around our job. My coworkers will sometimes come late, leave early, and even leave during their shifts to go do other things while they're still on the clock.

I don't mean to harp on those I work with, but I impart a word of advice to all of you - don't be that guy.

I think the biggest problem that part-time jobs, at least in my case, is that people just don't care. At the end of the day, remember that you have a job. People across the country want and need those, and for whatever reasons, you have one, and they don't. Be respectful and mindful of your coworkers and clients/customers/patrons, and just be the best employee you can be.

Your boss will notice, promise.
