This is such a cool/weird/awesome day.

One year ago today, I started dating that guy in all the pictures (isn't he cute?!).

In March of 2013 (junior year), I started to realize that I needed a prom date. I had a couple guy friends (#singlesexeducationprobz), but they weren't exactly date material. We were too much like siblings to go to prom together.

Upon telling my friends that I had no idea what I was going to do, my friend Josie talked to her date, Stephen, and he suggested that I meet this guy named John. I knew who his brother was, but I had never met him.

Josie texted me about 2 hours after and said that I shouldn't message him back if he messaged me. She said that she changed her mind and that we wouldn't be a good match after all. However, when the message finally popped into my inbox the next day, I decided otherwise.

So, we started talking, and looking back now, it was so awkward. We had the whole "what classes do you take?" or "how many siblings do you have?" conversation several times (again, #singlesexeducationprobz), but decided that we would go out with Josie and Stephen the next weekend and go roller skating.

This was rather interesting. I have very little coordination, especially on wheels, and I spent a lot of that date on the ground while John was running around trying to show off.

We continued talking, and the next weekend it was my birthday. My friend Lauren and I had a joint dinner, and before the dinner John handed me an envelope. I remember thinking to myself, "If this is a gift card I'm going to smack somebody." Finally, at the end of the night, he let me open it, and it was a Gatsby-esque proposal that he made! At prom, which was Gatsby themed, we had a blast.

The next morning, we were talking and he looked at me and asked, "This isn't just a prom thing, right?" I shook my head, and three days later, we were officially dating.

Looking back now, I'm so glad I shook my head that day. The past year has been so much better with him by my side. I am a very high-strung person, and somehow he is always so calm. It's been such a wonderful year.

Here's to (hopefully!) many more!
